Mystery Guitar

This is one pretty guitar right? It belonged to my Granddad.

I really want to learn how to play a guitar (sometime in the future)

I just like looking at this one right now though. The only thing I want to know now is, what is the name of this style guitar? Is it an old classic? What type is it? What does that silver bar thing do?

So many questions about this pretty little guy. If anyone reading this knows anything about guitars, please tell me! Let me know!
